Donald Trump and Wolodymyr Selenskyj: Meeting at Papst Berdigung

US President Donald Trump and Kiev head of state Wolodymyr Selenskyj spoke to each other in Rome on the edge of the funeral service for Pope Francis, according to Ukrainian information. Ukrainian media published photos of the meeting in St. Peter’s Basilica, on which Trump and Selenskyj sitting on chairs in a hall and deepened into conversation. According to the state Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, which referred to the presidential office in Kiev, there should still be another conversation between the two on the conflict in Ukraine.

After the meeting, Trump threatened Vladimir Putin with sanctions. The behavior of the Kremlin chief gives him thinking, Trump wrote on his online language tube Truth Social. Perhaps this does not want to end the war at all, but only hold it down, and must therefore be treated differently.

The White House described the meeting with Selenskyj as “very productive”, and further details were to be announced later. It was the first meeting of the two statesmen after a scandal in the White House at the end of February.

Selenskyj is optimistic after his meeting with Trump in Rome. “It was a very symbolic meeting that has the potential to become a historical when we achieve common results,” writes Selenskyj on Telegram. He thanks Trump and spoke of a good conversation. “We were able to discuss a lot under four eyes. We hope for a result from things that have been discussed.” This included the protection of the life of the Ukrainian population, “a complete and unconditional ceasefire” and “a reliable and permanent peace”.
