Pope Francis’ grave can now be visited in the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Believers and interested people take the opportunity: numerous have been pending since the early hours of the morning.
After the burial of Pope Francis, his grave is open to the public for the first time. Since the early hours of the morning, hundreds of believers and interested parties have been in front of the Santa Maria Maggiore basilica to get to the Marienkirche. In the church outside the Vatican walls, the Pontifex was buried on Saturday after a large requiem on St. Peter’s Square and a funeral procession through the eternal city.
The basilica opened its doors at 7:00 a.m. As a place for the grave, the Pope, who died on Easter Monday at the age of 88, chose a job in the left aisle. On Saturday afternoon, the coffin was buried there in the exclusion of the public and in a small circle. You can see a simple marble plate with the inscription “Franciscus”. A replica of its silver -colored pectoral (pectoral) is attached to this.
The cardinals brought together for the funeral celebrations and the approaching conclave, i.e. the choice of a Francis successor, will attend the final resting place of the 266th Pope at 4:00 p.m. and hold an evening prayer there. The new grave assumes that significantly more pilgrims and visitors will come to the Marienkirche in the future.
