After the attack on tourists in the controversial Kaschmir region, Indian and Pakistani soldiers shot together according to Indian information the third night in a row. The Indian army said on Sunday that along the demarcation line between the two countries in the region claimed by Neu-Delhi and Islamabad, Pakistani soldiers had initially “unprovoked” with small weapons. Indian soldiers would have reacted “effective” with “appropriate small weapons”.

On Tuesday, attackers in the popular holiday destination Pahalgam in the Indian part of Kashmir shot 26 tourists. According to Indian police, two Pakistani citizens were among the fleeting perpetrators. India accused Pakistan’s support of “cross -border terror” after the attack, Pakistan rejected this.

After the attack, the two nuclear powers covered each other with punitive measures. In view of the latest tensions, experts do not rule out a military escalation.

The UN Security Council condemned the attack on tourists as a “terrorist attack” on Friday. Those responsible would have to be held accountable, it said. On Thursday, the spokesman for UN General Secretary António Guterres, Stéphane Dujarric, called for both sides to “greatest possible reluctance”.

The northern Himalayan region of Kashmir, which is mostly inhabited by Muslims, has been shared since India and Pakistan’s independence in 1947. Both countries claim the area completely and have already led two wars to control the mountain region.
