The fate of Ukraine hangs too much on the ear of Donald Trump

This iconic moment when Donald Trump put together with Wolodymyr Selenskyj in the Vatican leg on leg, was only a few hours ago, so the US President had to briefly cushion: These Russian rockets in civilian Ukrainian areas, cities and villages-“It makes me think: maybe he doesn’t want to end the war, but only keeps me there,” wrote Trump on Wladimir in his network in his network “Truth Social”.

Why should the Kremlin boss, after all, it is going very well for him on the battlefield. And haven’t Donald Trump made it clear enough that he no longer feels like throwing money and weapons behind Ukraine? The imperialist Putin can hardly wish for more certificates.

Perhaps it must therefore be treated differently, the head of state continues in his new post. How exactly? Of course, Drama-King Trump leaves open. Like so much when it comes to war in Ukraine. Sometimes he threatens Russia further sanctions, just to caress the Kremlin boss shortly afterwards. Sometimes he insults the Ukrainian president, only to exchange ideas with him a little later, as now in Rome.

Before the late Pope was buried there, Donald Trump was delighted that the United States and Russia would soon be able to agree on a “peace plan”. The paper reads like Vladimir Putin’s wish list, and Trump apparently seemed more than ready to push the Ukraine in front of the bus for this “deal”.

But now, after a quarter-hour four-eye conversation with Selenskyj, the first since the humiliating scandal in the White House, the US President apparently sees the matter differently again. What exactly the two discussed is unknown, but the Ukrainian president called the exchange “very symbolically and potentially historical”.

Could he convince Donald Trump that the only thing that rose was to accuse the aggressor of Russia to eat the aggressor of Ukraine? And is it also wiser with regard to future conflicts, like the possible invasion of China in Taiwan? And who knows what the Russian president actually is still planning?

Is it enough for him to behead Ukraine and to tolerate only as a fuselage vassal neighbor? Does he want to incorporate it completely? And if not now, then in a few years? Is he planning further invasions in (EU) countries like Lithuania or is the hybrid war that his Russia has been leading against western countries for a long time?

There are also enough reasons for an isolationist USA that the ruler in distant Moscow is not too free. Especially since he has often proven enough that he promises to promise, announcements and contracts relatively to totally. This attitude is unlikely to leave the businessman Trump cold, he has been begging for years at Putin to be able to do fat business with and in Russia.

If Donald Trump may not fulfill every wish after meeting Wolodymyr Selenskyj Russia, this is good news, not just for Ukraine. At the same time, however, it is also a disturbing result. Because the possible change in mood of the US president shows again how easy it is to influence. And that he tends to rely on the perspective of the interlocutor with whom he was the last. After his first meeting with China’s head of state Xi Jinping, the then new US president dropped the sentence that Korea was once part of China. Which is not true. It almost didn’t matter whether Xi tells him this lie or that he had understood his statements. Since then, there have been halfway steady states: Those who want to shape Trump’s worldview only need to be heard at the end of the day.

Formulated politely, Donald Trump fits his approach flexibly to the changing circumstances. Formulated less politely: Trump is and remains a back grateless opportunist. The fate of Ukraine therefore depends on those who accidentally have access to the boss in the Oval Office.
