The designated Federal Minister of Economics and still energy manager Katherina Reiche is one of the surprises in Friedrich Merz ‘ministerial team. A short portrait.
The election of Katherina Reiche as the new Minister of Economic Affairs is certainly one of the surprises in the appointment of the CDU Ministers. The 51-year-old is no stranger to the political company in Berlin. Because from 1998 to 2015, the current boss of the E.ON daughter West energy was a member of the Bundestag, initially as a research politician.
Later she was a parliamentary state secretary in the environmental, then in the Ministry of Transport. At that time, her change to the general manager of the Association of Local Company (VKU) in 2015 triggered a debate whether there should be a transition period for MPs who switch to business.
Katherina Reiche is an experienced manager
The graduate chemist and mother of three children took over the chair of the Federal Government’s National Hydrogen Council in June 2020. With the selection of the Reiche, which comes from Luckenwalde from Brandenburg, Merz meets the women’s demands in the CDU and the East German state associations according to important positions.
By nominating an experienced manager with the rich, the CDU boss also tries to take wind out of the sails criticism of the economy of the black and red government.
The “Handelsblatt” recently reported that Reiche had taken on another office. The Swedish energy company Ingrid Capacity had included her in his supervisory board. Reich had already participated in a meeting of the committee.
