Dorothee Bär: Who is the designated space minister?

The future Federal Minister of Research and Space, which, like Söder, comes from Franconia, is intended to be responsible for exactly the topic in the new federal government in which Söder recently put its greatest fantasies and invests a lot of money. The 47-year-old bear said before her appointment in the magazine “Politico”, moon missions should not only be left to Americans and Russians.

Bär is currently in a run: First she became the queen of votes in the Bundestag election, after which she was added to the Singspiel at the strong beer tapping on the Nockherberg – which is virtually an unofficial nobility title in political Bavaria. And now she can enter the government of Friedrich Merz (CDU) with the newly tailored department for research and space travel.

During the coalition negotiations, Fränkin reacted calmly to speculation about a call to the cabinet. The experience of short -term plan changes has made it wise: Although only 47 years old, she was already considered a possible future Federal Minister in several government formation.

In 2009 she was once for three negotiating nights, Bär recently told the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. “That was very nice.” But sometimes the departments among the parties were redistributed shortly before the end, sometimes it was necessary to use proportional issues – something always prevented Bär’s rise to the minister.

The bear, born on April 19, 1978, comes from a deeply political budget. Her grandfather and father were CSU Mayor in her home town of Ebelsbach, her husband Oliver Bär is a CSU district administrator in the Hof district.

Bär himself entered the Junge Union at the age of 14, studied political science after graduating from high school, has been on the CSU party executive since 2001 and since 2002 in the Bundestag.

So more politics than with “Doro” Bär does not work – and yet it is not undisputed in the CSU. For example, caught your eye that she slipped to sixth place on the state list before the Bundestag election – in 2021 she was in second place.

In fact, the popularity values ​​of bears in the CSU are more mixed, as was regularly shown in their results in board elections. Bär explains this by the fact that, in addition to serious daily newspapers, she also appears regularly in the “colorful”. Her grandmother subscribed to the illustrated and she read her from child – “This is an important leading medium.”. But it is clear to her: “This is extremely harmful to party congress results. Of course everyone finds it stupid.”

In the “FAZ” she also gave an excessive interview a few years ago for her preference for high heels. Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) also praised this at the time, Bär recalls-from 2017 to 2021, she was in the cabinet as a digital Minister of State in the Federal Chancellery.

Söder will be happy that the CSU will be responsible for space and research for the coming years. The Bavarian Prime Minister pursues ambitious goals in his state in the research fields space travel, artificial intelligence and nuclear power. A party friend as a department head should be friendly to Bavarian applications for federal funds.

The money needs here are huge – Bavaria alone invests 5.5 billion euros in Söder’s High Tech Agenda. Additional funding from Berlin could strengthen the science and research location. In the last legislative period by Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), the CSU would like to act to operate its Bavarian interests.
