The SPD federal chairman Saskia Esken is currently experiencing a headwind – also in its own state association. He has no longer proposed for the federal board. She can still run.
The state board of the Baden-Württemberg SPD has no longer nominated party leader Saskia Esken for the federal board. In addition to state chief Andreas Stoch, the committee also proposed the Bundestag members Katja Mast and Isabel Cademartori as possible members, as can be seen from the corresponding decision that is available to the German Press Agency. The “Spiegel” had previously reported.
The last time, in 2023, Esken had been nominated by her own national association, and this year the party leader had not submitted a candidacy. The candidacies that have been available so far have been nominated, said head of state Andreas Stoch. “In consultation with Saskia Esken, this is not a preliminary decision for the question of whether she is running again as a party leader or not.”
Candidature remains possible
Even without nomination by her home association, ESKE could still be nominated as the federal chairman of the federal board or spontaneously run at a party conference. The party leadership will be re -elected in June. The role of playing is strongly controversial in the party – also in Baden -Württemberg, Esken’s homeland.
In an interview, state general secretary Sascha Binder Essken recently criticized. “Cabinet posts must be given to those who have great trust within the party, but especially among people outside,” Binder said to the “Südkurier” and the “Badische Zeitung”. “We have seven cabinet posts. I agree with Saskia Esken that four of them should go to women. But then it goes, who are the four best? And I don’t see Saskia.”
SPD Presidium member Katja Pähle, on the other hand, defended Esken. You cannot give her sole responsibility for the clap in the Bundestag election. All strategic orientations had made ESKE and co-boss Lars Klingbeil in coordination with the managing Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
