Repression in Russia: Moscow stamps well -known environmentalists as agents

The Russian Ministry of Justice has declared the well -known environmentalist Vladimir Sliwjak as foreign agent. “My classification as a” foreign agent “again proves how great the fear of the Russian regime is of civil society,” Sliwjak himself commented in a press release of the environmental protection organization Urgewald, which was spread on Tuesday. Sliwjak is a Russian environmental activist who has made a name for himself in the fight against the transport of nuclear waste. The environmental protection organization “Ecodefense” founded by him was branded in 2014 as one of the first to use the label abroad. In 2021 he was awarded the right likelihood award, which is considered an alternative Nobel Prize in the area of ​​environmental protection. Shortly after the start of the war, he had to flee from Russia.

Black list almost 1000 names long

Russia has founded a register of so -called foreign agents since 2012, in which organizations and private individuals were initially recorded from 2020. There are now almost 1000 names on the black list of the Ministry of Justice. It is considered a means to make different silver silence.

Originally considered an agent foreign agent, who at least moves into part of their financing from abroad, the ministry’s assessment that the relevant “under foreign influence” is now sufficient.
