Klingbeil is said to become Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister

SPD boss Lars Klingbeil is to become vice chancellor in the new federal government. The Party Presidium had unanimously voted for this, the German press agency learned from party circles. This makes Klingbeil representative of the probably future Chancellor Friedrich Merz (Union) and cemented his power.
According to the DPA, Klingbeil takes over the Ministry of Finance, which is considered the most powerful department. With this, he not only has sovereignty over the establishment of the household, but will also be able to set accents in terms of foreign policy – because Klingbeil’s real political passion lies in the area.
Klingbeil has been a party chairman since 2021 and, after his party’s debacle, also took over the office of parliamentary group leader in the Bundestag election. The 47 -year -old Lower Saxony secured a position of power despite the defeat he was responsible for.
He led the SPD into the coalition negotiations with the Union, sometimes negotiated under four eyes with the expected future Chancellor Friedrich Merz – without co -party leader Saskia Esken.
