Negotiations were made for weeks and partly argued. Now the United States and the Ukraine seem to be very close to a signing.
The USA and Ukraine are about to sign a long -discussed raw material agreement. “As soon as all the final details are drawn up, the agreement will soon be signed within the next day and we take the first step,” said Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal on Ukrainian news television.
US Finance Minister Scott Bessent said in Washington at a cabinet session that the American side was ready for signing in the course of Wednesday (local time), provided that Kiev was also ready.
From the Ukrainian government it was said that vice -leader Julia Swryrydenko was on the way to Washington. Previously, American and Ukrainian media had already reported on the upcoming signing, citing their own sources.
The difficult way to an agreement
Negotiations on the agreement have been running since February and, after a scandal in the White House between the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj and US President Donald Trump, was about to fail. The United States is intended to receive privileged access to Ukrainian resources, including metals of rare earths.
Ukraine hopes for the wins to reconstruction the country drawn by the war. The Ukrainian Parliament must ratify the paper before entering into force.
Trump said Ukraine had a lot of rare earths. And the country would also benefit from an “American presence” in reducing the raw materials, he argued. Because the keep “bad actors” away.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for more than three years. The United States is no longer willing to support the country without consideration after Trump has taken office.
