BSW receives millions again

The alliance Sahra Wagenknecht failed just because of the five percent hurdle in the Bundestag election. This does not keep your most important donor from further grants.

Despite the BSW misery in the Bundestag election, the party of Sahra Wagenknecht is the most important major donor: the entrepreneur Thomas Stanger, who lives in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the Baltic Sea, once again transferred the BSW a millions-exactly EUR 2.048 million. This emerges from the publication of large donations by the German Bundestag.

Stanger had already attracted attention last year when he donated 990,000 euros in the alliance Sahra Wagenknecht in January and 4.09 million euros in March – together around 5 million euros. No other party had received so much money from a single donor.

The BSW failed in the Bundestag election on February 23 at 4.98 percent hair-sharp because of the five percent hurdle. The party contested the result and requires a new counting of the votes.

Political parties are financed in Germany primarily through membership fees, money from the state and donations. Sumers from 35,000 euros are considered large donations. The parties must immediately report such amounts to the Bundestag president, who then published this information promptly.
