Before the change of government, former Chancellor Angela Merkel remains in her sentence on refugee policy – and is celebrated for this at the Kirchentag.

At the Protestant meeting, on the other hand, she received great applause for her attitude in migration policy. In the coming week, a new federal government led by Friedrich Merz (CDU) wants to implement significant tightening to Germany to limit migration.
Angela Merkel: “Let’s not let that take us”
“Back then I didn’t say that I could do it,” emphasized Merkel. “That was my trust in the fact that there are many people in Germany who help in such an emergency. And there was, and we can be proud of that. Let’s not let it take.”
She also knew that 10,000 new people could not be recorded every day, and it has to be better to leave the country again that those who have no right to stay in Germany. “But the ones who were at our door, so to speak, on the border, we did not reject them, but have taken it in.”

New federal government wants to prevent illegal entry
With her statements, Merkel stands out from the migration course of her designated successor Merz. The CDU boss has announced that from day one of the new federal government, the state borders would be even better checked and rejections were carried out to a larger extent. A much more restrictive course will also be supported in the EU.
“Anyone who tries to enter Germany illegally must expect from May 6th to end the German border,” said the designated Chancellor Minister Thorsten Frei to the newspapers of the Funke Mediengruppe.
