There have been battles in Syria again for days. Since the outbreak of the new violence on Monday, more than 100 people have killed. The Drusian community fears for its security in the new Syria.
According to activists, several druses have been killed again according to fatal clashes in Syria. 35 members of the religious minority were ambushed, reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in Great Britain. Syrian security forces and members should be behind the attack, as it was said.
Nine of the victims were immediately shot in the attack on the street between Suweida in the south and the capital Damascus. Some corpses were burned. The observation center receives its information from a network of informants and activists on site. Drusian sources in Suweida confirmed the attack by the German Press Agency.
So far more than 100 deaths in clashes
There have been fatal arguments in Syria for days. According to the observation site, more than 100 people have been killed in various locations since Monday evening. Sunni militias fought with drunken violent battles.
According to local politicians, the mayor of the city of Sahna and his son are said to have been among the victims. The druse was shot by unknown attackers, it said. In Sahnaja there were severe battles on Wednesday.
The trigger was a sound recording that is said to have insulted the Prophet Mohammed. It was initially attributed to a Druze. However, the Ministry of the Interior said that the accused person is not related to the admission.
According to Damascus, the wave of violence is reorganizing the rehearsal in Damascus and shows how fragile the deeply split society in Syria is after years of civil war. The risk of further conflicts of denomination remains high. The government has set the goal of one. However, observers assume that many militias will continue to act on their own.
Drusen leaders demanded international action
One of the spiritual leaders of the Drusen in Syria, Hikmat al-Hidschri, expressed the ongoing violence sharply. In a statement, he spoke of “wars and massacres as tools of terror” and asked the international community to intervene. A government should not fight their own people with ideologically motivated militias, emphasized al-Hidschri.
The Drusen are a religious minority, which is now mainly located in Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan. The religious community emerged from Shiite Islam in the 11th century.
During the rule of the fallen Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, many of the government were close to the government. Part of the Drusen is critical of the new Islamist leadership in Damascus. Others are already cooperating with the new government.
