In surveys they were already in front of the two traditional British people’s parties Labor and Conservatives. Now it can also be seen from the ballot box that Nigel Farage’s Reform UK has to be expected.
The British right-wing populists led by Brexit powers Nigel Farage have added a severe flap to the Governing Labor Party in a by-election to the parliament.
Farage’s Reform-UK party candidate, Sarah Pochin, won the election in the Runcorn and Helsby near Liverpool district with only six votes. Nevertheless, her victory is considered a bang, because the party of Prime Minister Keir Straßer had won the constituency in the parliamentary election last year with a lead of more than 14,000 votes.
MP had put down Mann
The by-election had become necessary because Labor MP Mike Amesbury had to step back after he had put down a man. It took place at the same time as local elections in England.
Reform UK also leads Labor and the Conservatives in nationwide surveys just ahead of the two traditional British people’s parties. It is expected that the party will also have further success in the results of the local election results.
Heavy defeat for Labor
Reform boss Farage claimed that his party had replaced the conservatives as an official opposition. In parliament, however, the party has only five MPs with the latest success.
“It will be difficult for Labor to argue that this was anything but a serious defeat for the party,” said BBC Wahlekperte John Curtice from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
