State -financed media report unfairly about his politics, says Donald Trump – and now he wants to delete funds. He sees a large part as “enemies of the people”.
In his approach to supposedly “left” media, US President Donald Trump targets public broadcasting. He signed a decree on Thursday (local time) that should end state financing for the television station PBS and the NPR radion network. The broadcasters did not report “fair, precise and impartial” about his politics, Trump explained this.
The public broadcasting service (PBS) television institution is known, among other things, through programs such as “Sesame Straße” and the news program “Newshour”, the radio station NPR records high ratings with its morning messages.
Both transmitters only depend on a small part of public funds, they are mainly financed by private donors. PBS, for example, receives around 15 percent of its funds from the public broadcasting company CPB, the radio station NPR less than five percent. The Congress had also approved the Budget of the Radio Society CPB of more than $ 500 million (442 million euros) by 2027.
Trump has been standing against the media for a long time
Republican MPs had accused public channels of “brainwashing” and “indoctrination of children” by LGBTQ content at the end of March. The English abbreviation stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer.
Trump has been fielding a large part of the established media in the country for years, in which he sees “enemies”. Since his return to the White House in January, the right -wing populist has tightened these attacks. For example, he concluded the US news agency Associated Press (AP) of appointments in the Oval Office and presidential flights, and he also coincides with the funds for the US foreigners.
