On the 250th anniversary of the founding of the US Army, Trump wants to honor American soldiers and veterans with a military parade. This is planned for June 14th – his birthday.
US President Donald Trump announced a military parade on June 14 of this year. He wanted to honor active soldiers and veterans on the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the US Army, the White House said on Friday. The parade coincides with Trump’s 79th birthday.
The President wanted to honor “American veterans, active soldiers and military history with a military parade,” wrote the deputy press spokeswoman for the White House, Anna Kelly, in the online service X.
Defense Minister Pete Hegseth said the online edition of the government -related broadcaster Fox News that it would be the “largest and most beautiful military parade in the history” of the United States. Other US media had already reported the plans at the beginning of April, but the White House initially denied the information.
Trump’s model: France
According to Fox News, costumed actors are said to be reminiscent of the War of Independence in the Parade, the civil war and the two world wars, and historical equipment should also be seen. It should also be about the Vietnam War like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During his first term, Trump visited the Great Paris Military Show on the national holiday on July 14, 2017 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. He was so impressed by this that he expressed the desire for a similar spectacle.
On July 4, 2019, Trump then organized a military air show in the capital Washington on July 4, 2019. Unlike in Paris, however, neither tanks rolled through the streets nor marched soldiers. The Pentagon called the costs too high at the time – among other things because tanks left great damage in the streets.
