The classification of the AfD as secure right-wing extremist by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution is not well received by the US government. The Federal Foreign Office reacts.
After the classification of the AfD as secure right-wing extremist, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Germany of tyranny. Germany has just given its spy authority new powers to monitor the opposition, Rubio wrote on the platform X: “This is not a democracy – it is a hidden tyranny.”
The AfD – which took second place in the recent elections – but the fatal policy of the open limits that the party rejected is really extremist, the US foreign minister wrote: “Germany should change its course.”
US tech billionaire Elon Musk, who also works for the Trump government, commented on X. He wrote that a “ban on the AfD, Germany’s most popular party, would be an extreme attack on democracy”. Before the Bundestag election, Musk had repeatedly advertised the AfD, which had met with sharp criticism in Germany.
AfD decision: “This is democracy”
The Federal Foreign Office reacted to Rubios Tweet – and praised the decision as democratic. “This is democracy,” wrote the authority on X: “This decision is the result of a thorough and independent examination to protect our constitution and the rule of law.”
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BFV) had previously classified the AfD as secure right -wing extremist after several years of examination. The discussion about an AfD ban on proceedings is picking up speed again.
The Federal Foreign Office, which is rarely expressed on domestic political processes, continued on his English -language channel: “Independent dishes will have the last word. We have learned from our history that right -wing extremism must be stopped.”
In September, the Federal Foreign Office of the then republican US presidential candidate Trump, in the TV duel, with his competitor Kamala Harris, ironically commented. In the debate, Trump repeated the assumption of his vice candidate Vance, illegally immigrated migrants in Springfield in the US state of Ohio Äßen pets. According to US media, such cases are not known to the authorities in Springfield. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs then referred to the Platform X: “PS: We also do not eat cats and dogs.”
US Vice President JD Vance had already warned of a threat to democracy in Germany at the Munich Security Conference in mid-February. He indirectly referred to the German debate about a delimitation from the AfD and said: “There is no place for fire walls.”
At the sidelines of the conference, Vance also met AfD boss Alice Weidel. Weidel also received campaign support from Trump consultant Elon Musk. Her co-party leader Tino Chrupalla traveled to Trump’s inauguration in Washington.
