F-16 fighter jets: USA allows the sale of spare parts to Ukraine

Agreement achieved
US government allowed the sale of spare parts for F-16 fighting jets to Ukraine

Equipment, spare parts and pilot training: The United States wants to support Ukraine in connection with F-16 fighter jets. It is about 275 million euros.

The US government of President Donald Trump gave the green light on Friday for an agreement with Ukraine for spare parts and support in pilot training for F-16 fight jets. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had informed the congress of the sale of equipment and services for maintaining fighter planes worth $ 310.5 million (around 275 million euros).

The proposed agreement with Kiev therefore includes the “Ukraine training of personnel in connection with the operation and maintenance” of the fighter jets as well as spare parts and equipment for soil processing. This ensures, among other things, that the Ukrainian pilots are “effectively trained”. This will “improve the ability of Ukraine, present, present and future threats”.

Many words, but little jets-why the fighter jet alliance for Ukraine is not quick help

F-16 fighter jets for a long time on Kiev’s wish list

Fighting jets of the type F-16 had long been on the wish list of Ukraine, since Kiev had repeatedly pushed for their delivery since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in February 2022. The NATO partners had started delivery of F-16 fight jets to Kiev last summer, including the USA, the Netherlands and Denmark. For security reasons, NATO countries did not say how many fighter planes went to Kiev.

Trump had spoken out in the election campaign against the billion dollar military and economic support for Kiev by his predecessor Joe Biden. In return for the US military aid for Ukraine, he called for access to rare earths and other raw materials in the country.

A corresponding agreement had been negotiated for weeks and was changed again and again at the request of Ukraine before it was finally signed on Wednesday.
