Should an AfD ban come? According to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitutional Office, CDU politicians react to claims for a ban on the AfD.
The Union faction reacts cautiously to demands to initiate a ban procedure against the AfD. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution had now also classified the right -wing populists nationwide as “secured right -wing extremist”.
“In view of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, we now have to analyze exactly what consequences this can have in dealing with this party,” said the domestic spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Alexander Throm, the “Augsburg Allgemeine” (Saturday).
However, it was clear “that the AfD’s examination must continue to be politically managed”. The extremist attitude of the AfD must be exposed. “Crucial in the fight against the AfD are now quick visible successes of the new coalition, especially in the areas of migration and security as well as economy,” said Throm.
AfD ban: “Question does not arise now”
The Berlin Justice Senator Felor Badenberg considers debates about an AfD ban procedure. You expect the party to act as secure right -wing extremist. Therefore, “this question does not arise at the present time,” Badenberg told Deutschlandfunk in an interview.
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution had justified its decision with the “Human dignity, extremist characteristics of the entire party”.
In the Bundestag election in February, the AfD became the second strongest force according to the CDU/CSU with 20.8 percent.
