SPD boss Esken has to take criticism from his own party. Co -boss Klingbeil takes you out – with clear words.
SPD leader Lars Klingbeil criticized the internal party dealing with his co-boss Saskia Esken. “I’ve been experiencing a public debate about Saskia Escia for days now. This is a style that I don’t like in the SPD at all, where I always fought for it that it doesn’t exist,” said Klingbeil of the “Bild am Sonntag”. “I find it shameful how discussions have been in the past few weeks.”
In the party, Esken’s future role is discussed. The SPD general secretary in Baden-Württemberg, Sascha Binder, recently said that Esken was not one of the four best SPD women. So far it is only clear that Klingbeil will become Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister in the Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). The six other ministers of the SPD are to be named on Monday.
Klingbeil emphasized that he was “very happy” with Esken together party leader. “Saskia Esken and I, we talk a lot, we make decisions together,” he said. “We will also do this about the question of what the future cabinet looks like.” However, it will certainly not talk about whether individuals are ministerial. Klingbeil added: “I don’t think that in 2025 men judge what they can or not.” The SPD leadership will be re-elected in June.
