Hubertus Heil says goodbye to the big political stage. The long -time Minister of Labor will no longer hold a leadership role in the future.
In the new government, long -standing Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil will no longer play a prominent role. He will not run for the chair of the SPD parliamentary group, Heil told the German Press Agency in Berlin. He says goodbye to the management offices and withdraws into the second row.
“In the past few days, I have been encouraged from various sides from the party and the faction to start as chairman of the SPD parliamentary group,” said the 52-year-old Heil. “But I decided not to run.” His reason: “Such an office can only be successfully exercised in this government coalition and in these times if you have the express support of the party leadership.”
Heil is left behind in SPD post poker
Accordingly, in the final of the SPD post poker there is currently a lack of support from SPD boss Lars Klingbeil for Heil. As another male low-saxony, Heil was no longer set for a third term for the top of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. He had already described this publicly. According to reports, there is one reason that Heil now has a look after the central post, the wing proporz in the SPD.
Ten weeks after the Bundestag election, the fifth black and red coalition in the history of the Federal Republic will be sealed this Monday. The chairpersons of the CDU, CSU and SPD sign their 144 -page coalition agreement in Berlin entitled “Responsibility for Germany”. Immediately in front of it, the SPD presents its staff for the new government.
Wants to continue working in the Bundestag
Heil wished “everyone who will now take on leadership responsibility in the government, the parliamentary group and the party”. He thanked “everyone who has supported me in my work in recent years”.
The still acting minister of labor wants to remain in the Bundestag. “I will continue to represent my home Gifhorn/Peine in the future as a directly elected MP in the German Bundestag,” said Heil.
The SPD politician is considered successful in office and popular in office. Before that, he held the office of Secretary General. As a minister, he implemented the citizens’ benefit and took care of a social adaptation of the world of work to technological change with numerous laws.
Now takes over Miersch?
Politico reports that the previous SPD general secretary Matthias Miersch will become the new parliamentary group leader of his party in the Bundestag. The three currents within the parliamentary group had agreed on the personnel, reported the news magazine on Sunday. The decision was confirmed from parliamentary groups.
Miersch belongs to the left party wing. According to the report, the conservative Seeheim district should receive the right of proposal for the post of the first parliamentary managing director.
According to a “picture” report, Miersch prevailed in a party internal power struggle against the executive Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil. The latter had already announced that he would not belong to the new federal government. On Sunday, he also declared his waiver of a candidacy for the chair of the SPD parliamentary group, as reported by the ARD capital studio. As a reason, he indicated a lack of backing through the party leadership.
SPD introduces ministerial ranks on Monday
The SPD will present its ministerial team on Monday. In the morning, the party leadership first wants to inform the presidium and board of directors about the personnel decisions, at 11:30 a.m. the new ministers will present themselves to the public at a photo shoot. So far, it was only known that party leader Lars Klingbeil would become Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister. In the coalition with the Union, the SPD is entitled to six other ministerial offices.
The future coalition parties CDU, SPD and CSU literally want to sign their coalition agreement at 12 noon.
