Olaf Scholz celebrates Zapfenstreich: Which songs should run

Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be released from office this Monday evening. He said that the playlist for the occasion. The star has created its own.

The Chancellery of Olaf Scholz ends this Monday evening. For the ceremonial tap, the outgoing head of government has wanted three usual lame songs:

  • “In My Life” by the Beatles
  • Extract from the second Brandenburg concert by Johann Sebastian Bach
  • “Respect” by Aretha Franklin

The selection is not really surprising. Scholz ‘Art always had something of a robot, hence his nickname “Scholzomat”. We think the following songs fit far better for the term of office of the SPD politician:

“Money” – Pink Floyd

At the minimum wage, Scholz showed himself from his social side. With the increase to twelve euros, he perhaps solved his most important election promise. “Get a Good Job with More Pay and You’re Okay” says in the song of the English rock band, in which the musicians denounce the exploitation of workers.

“The Times They Are A-Changin”-Bob Dylan

After Russia’s attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Scholz held his time turning speech three days later. In it he emphasized the end of the status quo and the transition to a new world order. Bob Dylan’s sad ballad “The Times They Are A-Changin” aptly describes this.

“Wellellman” – Nathan Evans

In September 2023, Scholz stumbled jogging and injured his eye. For medical reasons, he had to wear an eye flap – and looked like a pirate. The viral sailor song “Wellellman” by Nathan Evans fits well with the incident.

“Forgot” – Xavier Naidoo

The Cum-Ex scandal is one of the largest tax affairs in Germany-and is connected to Olaf Scholz, who was asked as a witness. Unfortunately, he couldn’t remember anything, he said again and again in the committee of inquiry. Xavier Naidoo’s song “forget”.

“I find you shit” – tic tac toe

The dismissal of Christian Lindner in November 2024 heralded the end of Scholz’s term. In the speech in which he explained his decision, his opinion of Lindner became quite clear: “Too often, he broke my trust,” said Scholz, among other things. Overall, it came through how little he personally appreciated Lindner. To put it with the song by the German girl band Tic Tac Toe: “I think you shit”.

“Boulevard of Broken Dreams” – Green Day

In December 2024, Scholz lost the question of trust in the Bundestag. To dissolve and propose new elections was probably planned. And yet: When the musicians of Green Day “My Shadow’s the only one that Walks Beside Me” sing in their super hit “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, it reminds it that Scholz could not have wanted all of this and it is a defeat for him.
