The new US government wants to massively delete positions in all authorities in order to reduce bureaucracy and save tax money. Now the US Department of Defense also meets it.
US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth wants to reduce the number of four-star generations and admirals in the Pentagon by at least 20 percent. This reduces unnecessary bureaucracy and preserves the position of the USA “as the most fatal force in the world”, Hegseth wrote in a memorandum from which several US media cite. How exactly the job cuts should be implemented is unclear.
In the National Guard, too, the number of generals is to be reduced by 20 percent and in the military, a mining of posts among generals and flaggians by ten percent is to be sought, as Hegseth said in a video on platform X. “Fewer generals, more soldiers,” said the motto of his plans, according to Hegseth, without further details about the intended number.
In February, US President Donald Trump had already released six top executives in the Department of Defense, including the first woman at the head of the US Navy. In April, the head of the US secret service NSA and the US sentence were released in the NATO military committee.
