Turkish authorities have acted against one of the most famous rappers in the country. The musician known under the artist name LVBel C5 was arrested and brought into prison for the glorification of drugs, reported the newspaper “Cumhuriyet”. According to the report, he threatens five to ten years in prison. LVBel C5 is one of the most heard artists on streaming platforms in Turkey.
The AKP government under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stands for rigorous Islamic-conservative cultural policy, from which the liberal cultural scene sees itself largely oppressed. Again and again music or film festivals are banned and other art products are also exposed to growing censorship. Against this background, many creative people leave the country.
