At Friedrich Merz’s first chancellor’s first chancellor, Angela Merkel sat on the grandstand. The former chancellor was missing on the second attempt. The congratulations later came on a different way.
Ex -Chancellor Angela Merkel was not able to personally present to the Chancellor in the second ballot in the election of Friedrich Merz (both CDU) – but she still wished her former rival all the best. Merkel “congratulated his choice by SMS and wanted strength, fortune and joy,” said a spokeswoman for the former Chancellor of the German Press Agency in Berlin on request.
Previously, the spokeswoman had said that Merkel was “unfortunately not possible for time constraints” to pursue the second ballot as a guest in the grandstand. Bundestag President Julia Klöckner said on the TV station Phoenix that Merkel had interrupted her vacation to participate in the chancellor’s election. The then CDU boss and later long-term chancellor Merkel displaced Merz in 2002 from the post of the Union faction leader.
