Till Backhaus should be responsible for killing a wolf. The public prosecutor wants to accuse him. The accusation: violation of the Nature Conservation Act.
The public prosecutor’s office Rostock plans to complain about Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s agricultural and environmental minister Till Backhaus (SPD) because of the launch of a wolf in April 2020.
The investigators accuse Backhaus a violation of the Federal Nature Conservation Act, as a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor said on Wednesday. The same allegation will be made several employees of the Ministry and the Rostock district. Backhaus is said to have stated that “a wild, strictly protected animal was killed”.
Backhaus rejected the allegations. The wolf’s sake repeatedly approached a courtyard dog and “apparently also paired with it,” argued the minister. There was a risk of the development of wolfhybrids and thus a danger to the wolf population. That is why the district of Rostock issued a shooting permit.
Committee supports the immunity of Till Backhaus
As a ministry spokesman confirmed, however, it turned out when the autopsy was that the wolf’s sage was not pregnant. The Legal Committee of the Schwerin state parliament approved on Wednesday the abolition of the immunity of the minister, which is also a member of the state parliament. The state parliament must make the final decision.
The wolf committee also employs the administrative courts. After the Higher Administrative Court of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania declared the shooting in February this year illegal, the Ministry and the district of Revision made the Federal Administrative Court. However, the criminal liability does not depend on its decision, explained the Rostock public prosecutor.
