Germany and Poland want to expand railways

From Paris to Warsaw: Chancellor Merz meets his colleague Tusk in the Polish capital. A result of the inaugural visit: Both countries want to expand the rail network.

Germany and Poland want to expand their railway lines – also to improve the NATO infrastructure for cases of conflict. He could still remember the times when this infrastructure ended on the Elbe, Poland Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in a joint press conference with Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) in Warsaw. “It has to end at the bow, that is, on the eastern border of Poland.” He is very important for close cooperation.

Merz assured that he shares the demand for a better infrastructure between the two countries. The coalition agreement agreed “that we want to expand the infrastructure to the east as well as the infrastructure to the west”. There should be express train connections to Szczecin and Warsaw and become as natural for Germans to travel to Warsaw or Prague, as has been a matter of course for years to Brussels or Paris. “We will also pursue that with great reprint,” emphasized Merz.

Well -developed rail networks are important in the event of a conflict in order to be able to quickly carry troops and large weapon systems like tanks back and forth.
