Mihalic: Flat -rate rejections contrary to European law

More police officers and rejections also from asylum seekers: Federal Minister of the Interior Dobrindt wants to make a lot different on the German land borders. The Greens consider this problematic.

The Green politician Irene Mihalic criticized the increased controls announced by Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) with more rejections at the borders. “Flat-rate rejections of asylum seekers at the limits are simply contrary to European law and fundamentally question cooperation with our neighboring countries,” said the first parliamentary managing director of the Greens faction in the Bundestag to the “Editorial Network Germany”.

Dobrindt announced on his first day in office that asylum seekers can also be rejected at the German land borders in the future – with the exception of pregnant women, children and other relatives of vulnerable groups. In addition, the number of federal police officers should be gradually increased at the borders.

Mihalic warned that this would “lead to an overload of the federal police never there”. If this is “massively moved to the border”, forces would be deducted from crime focuses such as train stations, but also from airports – so on the trigger elsewhere.
