Ambassador Antonov noted the groundlessness of Russia’s accusations of an imminent attack on Ukraine

Washington continues to “show off”, accusing Russia of preparing an attack on Ukraine during the winter Olympics in Beijing, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov told Newsweek on Saturday, February 12.

“The comments of politicians that Russia will attack Ukraine during the Olympics or after it are not supported by any evidence. Washington just continues to splurge, based on some intelligence, the details of which it does not give, ”the Facebook diplomat of the Russian diplomatic mission in the United States quoted as saying.

The ambassador added that even local observers note a sharp decline in the confidence of American citizens in such allegations.

“In turn, the Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that our country is not going to attack anyone,” Antonov emphasized.

Talk about escalation plans around Ukraine is insinuation and false news, as Antonov has repeatedly stated. He also noted that he is constantly faced with the need to refute such accusations when communicating with the US authorities. Each time, according to the Russian ambassador, he starts such conversations with a smile, explaining to Western partners that “neither today, nor tomorrow, nor the day after tomorrow, Russia will attack Ukraine,” after which he suggests “talking about serious things.”

In the United States and EU countries, they have recently expressed concern about the alleged increase in Russia’s “aggressive actions” against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied such accusations, saying that it does not threaten anyone. As the Russian side emphasized, such accusations are used as a pretext to deploy as much NATO military equipment as possible near the borders of the Russian Federation.

On January 20, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, pointed out that the US statements about the alleged preparation of a Russian offensive against Ukraine are being made in order to create an information cover for preparing their own large-scale provocations, including military ones, which could have the most tragic consequences for the regional and global security.

On February 11, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented examples of publications in the Western media, which, as part of a large-scale disinformation campaign, contribute to the spread of the thesis about “Russia’s impending invasion of Ukraine.” The Russian Foreign Ministry is sure that the authorities of Western countries and the media are working together to escalate artificial tension around Ukraine, using the massive stuffing of false information in geopolitical interests.
