The new German Foreign Minister is for the first time in Ukraine – together with its European counterparts. According to his words, the round wants to set an example.
According to Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul (CDU), Germany will continue to be one of the strongest supporters in Ukraine. “It will stay that way, and we will make it clear in the next few days,” said WadePhul in the ARD “daily topics”.
The new Foreign Minister had recently attended his first visit to Ukraine. This Friday he will take part in an informal meeting by EU Foreign Minister in the West Ukrainian LWIW (Lemberg), in which his Ukrainian counterpart Andrij Sybiha is also said to be there.
WadePhul said he would find out on Friday what Ukraine needs. “We will do what is necessary and we will do as long as it is necessary for Russia to see that this war has to be ended, that you have to at the negotiating table that you have to follow the ceasefire quickly.”
Special tribunal as “prevention for the future”
The CDU politician confirmed that the topic of special tribunal on Friday would be a decisive topic. This shows the free world that an aggression war cannot be easily managed, but that this has the consequences. “This is also a prevention for the future, so to speak, that not anyone else still comes up with the idea and thinks that in the 21st century one could return to the Middle Ages and wars without doing anything,” said the Foreign Minister.
EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas had already said that there would also be final political approval in LWIW to establish the planned international tribunal. Before this, Russia can be held responsible for the war of attack against Ukraine.
