The political pressure on British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is growing: now he is supposed to answer a police questionnaire. The demands for his resignation are getting louder – even within his own ranks.
London Police investigations into the Downing Street lockdown party scandal have reached British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The 57-year-old received a questionnaire from the Metropolitan Police, a government spokesman told the BBC on Friday evening. Johnson will answer the questions as requested.
The police had announced that they would send questions about the events to around 50 people who are believed to have taken part in the twelve events in question at the government headquarters. At that time, strict distance rules and contact restrictions applied due to the corona pandemic. The participants – including Johnson – face fines. The prime minister has so far dodged the question of whether he would resign if fined.
Johnson is under a lot of pressure because of the affair. He emphasizes that he neither took part in illegal events nor that corona rules were broken. But not only the opposition, but also several members of his Conservative Party are calling for his resignation.
