Russia’s military parade on the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany is the most important event of the year for Kremlin chief Putin. He hardly speaks about his Ukraine war. But others do that.
Russia celebrated the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in the Second World War with a spectacle criticized by Ukraine as a lying spectacle on the Red Square. Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin reminded of 11,500 soldiers, including participants in his war against Ukraine, of the heroism of the Red Army, which Europe then released from Adolf Hitler’s dictatorship. “Russia remains an insurmountable obstacle to Nazism, Russophobia and Anti-Semitism,” said the 72-year-old to numerous international guests, including China’s party and head of state XI Jinping. In Ukraine, EU foreign ministers and diplomats condemned at a Putin meeting war.
With Putin in the stands for the “Day of the victory” celebrated in Russia on May 9, heads of state and government were sitting from almost 30 countries, including from Brazil and the former Soviet republics. The Kremlin chief also wanted to show that despite his invasion in Ukraine, he was not isolated on an international stage. According to Putin’s consultant Juri Uschakow, US President Donald Trump also had congratulations on the holiday.
Request for ceasefire
The US President, however, insisted on a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine and threatened again with sanctions. “If the ceasefire is not met, the USA and its partners will impose further sanctions,” the Republican wrote on his online language tube Truth Social – probably primarily addressed to Russia.
According to Chinese information, XI once again spoke out for a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict during the talks with Putin the day before. It takes an “all -encompassing, common and sustainable conception of global security”, it was said in Beijing.
Putin sees the support of the Russians for his Ukraine war
At the fourth military parade since the beginning of his war war against Ukraine, Putin has lost significantly fewer words about the attack on the neighboring country. He claimed all of Russia supported the fighters of the “military special surgery”, as the Kremlin officially calls the war.
From the stands, veterans of the Second World War still watched the weapons show. Dick wrapped in jackets against the wind that blew over the Red Square, many of them were visibly moved by the military spectacle. But members of soldiers in the war against Ukraine also sat there – and for the first time, as a folder said, the seats were not sufficient.
The weapons show in Moscow on May 9th is always a demonstration of power for the nuclear power. In addition to tanks, anti -aircraft systems and long -range missiles and an air show with Suchoi fighter jets, there were also drones that are used in the war against Ukraine for the first time.
The security measures were particularly strict this time due to feared attacks on the Ukrainian side. The mobile internet in the city center was switched off for hours, business was closed. There were spacious barriers with metal grids. Nevertheless, tens of thousands were on the feet to see the military vehicles on the streets.
Putin had set a three -day ceasefire especially for world war commemoration, which expires this Saturday at midnight (11:00 p.m. CEST). Ukraine, especially with drone attacks, had paralyzed air traffic in Moscow, among others, in order to disturb the celebrations. Putin’s consultant Uschakow said that Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj had failed to intimidate the heads of state and government.
Both sides again reported violations of the ceasefire on Friday. According to the authorities, the area management was hit by a drone in Belgorod in the neighborhood of Ukraine. There were two injuries, including the deputy governor.
Kreml praises Slovak Fico and Serb Vucic for “Hearenmut”
Slovak Robert Fico in Moscow is the only head of government of an EU and NATO country. Serbian head of state Aleksandar Vucic also took part in the parade in Moscow. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow praised it as a “act of heroism” that the two had taken on their journey despite the political pressure in the vest. The EU had warned its members with a view to Putin’s war law -contrary war on Moscow.
The starting signal for special tribunal to Russia’s Ukraine attack
Meanwhile, a group of more than 30 outdoor ministers and diplomats from Europe and partner countries gave the starting signal for an international special tribunal for the Russian attack war against Ukraine. The judge’s committee is to be settled in the Hague in the Dutch and hold the top representative of the Russian leadership.
The round passed an explanation at a special meeting of the EU Foreign Minister in the West Ukrainian LWIW to get the Tribunal on the way. For Germany, the new Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul (CDU) took part in the consultations. “It must not happen that this war, which is contrary to international law, remains without consequences,” he said.
