Kremlin chief Putin had arranged a three -day ceasefire around the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The warring parties accuse each other. Now the fire break went out.
In the Ukraine War, the three-day fire break arranged by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. However, Putin in Moscow wanted to comment on journalists during the night. The ceasefire ran out at midnight (11:00 p.m. CEST), without the Kremlin or military leadership initially expressed. Both parties to the war had repeatedly accused themselves of violations of the agreement since the beginning of the fire break on Thursday.
In Kiev, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj and his four most important European allies had asked to implement a 30-day ceasefire from Monday in an ultimatum. Otherwise there should be new sanctions.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, the British Prime Minister Keir Strandmer and the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had traveled to Kiev to ultimately ask Russia to an unconditional ceasefire. On ZDF he said: “This is the greatest diplomatic initiative that has existed in the past few months when it has not been years to end the war in Ukraine.”
Selenskyj also accused Putin of only faking the fire break of the past few days to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union victory against Nazi Germany in World War II. “The attacks on the front line continue,” said the head of state at a meeting of the allies “coalition of the willing” in Kiev. Russia did not stop attacking Ukrainian positions and the border communities from the air.
Russian military also accuses Ukraine of violations
The Russian Ministry of Defense also listed violations of the ceasefire daily. There were several Ukrainian attempts to break through the state border to the Russian areas of Kursk and Belgorod. The Russian army only reacts to Ukrainian attacks, it said.
The information from the warring parties cannot be checked directly from an independent side. Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for over three years. The United States had called for a 30-day ceasefire to lead peace negotiations on this basis. Russia, on the other hand, named conditions, including a stop of western arms deliveries to Ukraine. Ukraine should not get an advantage through a break of fire to reposition itself militarily, it said in Moscow.
