Ukraine is intensively preparing for negotiations with Russia about the end of the war. President Selenskyj accuses Moscow of a hide -and -seek game.
The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj has confirmed his demand for a participation by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin in the planned negotiations on an end to the Russian war of aggression. Putin decides everything in Russia, so he also has to decide on the question of the war, said Selenskyj in his evening video message. “It is his war. That’s why negotiations with him have to run.”
According to his information, Ukraine is preparing for the meeting in Turkey in close coordination with the partners. At the weekend, Putin had countered the demands for a ceasefire with the proposal to resume direct conversations between Moscow and Kiev. These should take place in Istanbul.
Selenskyj expressed doubts about Russia’s willingness to negotiate. “Russia talks a lot about direct negotiations, but when it comes to business, they hide,” he said. The statement should be an allusion to the fact that the Kremlin covers Putin’s trip to Turkey. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow only said on Monday that a Russian delegation would be in Istanbul, but did not want to give the names of the negotiators.
