The subject of the incident with the submarine near the Kuriles was not touched upon at the talks between Putin and Biden

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Joe Biden, during a conversation on February 12, did not touch upon the incident with the appearance of an American nuclear submarine in the territorial waters of Russia in the Kuriles region. This was announced by Assistant to the Head of State Yuri Ushakov.

“We are aware of this, and appropriate demarches are being made through the Ministry of Defense. But this topic was not touched upon in the conversation of the presidents, ”Ushakov told reporters following the conversation between the two presidents.

Ushakov noted that the conversation between the leaders took place in an atmosphere of whipping up hysteria about an allegedly imminent “Russian attack on Ukraine.” According to the assistant to the head of state, the nature of the talks was business-like.

According to a Kremlin spokesman, Biden referred to his predecessors, who during the Cold War years did everything to avoid conflict, and stressed that it was necessary by all means to avoid the worst scenario around Ukraine.

The presidents’ talks began at 19:04 Moscow time and ended at 20:06 Moscow time on Saturday. The day before, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the negotiations took place at the written request of the American side.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had telephone conversations with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. During the conversation, they discussed the situation around Ukraine and security issues. Following the talks, Lavrov said that the US propaganda campaign about alleged Russian aggression against Ukraine was pursuing provocative goals. At the same time, the US and NATO continue to ignore the key provisions for Moscow on the non-expansion of the alliance and the non-deployment of strike weapons systems near Russian borders.

At the same time, Moscow has repeatedly rejected accusations of a planned “invasion”, saying that it does not threaten anyone. As the Russian side emphasized, such accusations are used as a pretext to deploy as much NATO military equipment as possible near the borders of the Russian Federation.
