Julia Klöckner stages her Bundestag Presidium like a TV sitcom

Politics don’t have to be boring – Bundestag President Julia Klöckner apparently wants to illustrate this with a new video. It shouldn’t have been the last of this kind.

“The Office” or Bundestag Presidium? The borders are fluid, at least in a new one of the Bundestag. The President of the German Bundestag, Julia Klöckner (CDU/CSU), and her deputy Andrea Lindholz (CDU/CSU), Josephine Ortleb (SPD), Omid Nouripour (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) and Bodo Ramelow (Die Linke) can be seen. The politicians are presented with their first names for brisk pop music, grin and wave in a good mood in the camera. It could be the intro of a TV sitcom.

“Because every series needs an intro: Our President and her vices ensure order at the plenary sessions and represent our parliament to the outside world,” says the post. “You want to see them in action? You can – always live on meeting days or on your next visit to the Bundestag.”

The video obviously is well received by the users. It was also time for “the democratic parties to put something on social media”, a user notes. Another writes: “Great appearance! Very personable! Wish a good legislative period with strong appearances!”

Julia Klöckner has been the new Bundestag president since March 25, 2025. Previously, the 52-year-old CDU politician was Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture in the Merkel government from 2018 to 2021.

After taking office, Klöckner emphasized how important the presence was on social media. “We have to recognize that these are the sources from which young people receive their information,” she told the “Rheinische Post” newspaper. “If such platforms are allowed and are used by young people and parties to form the opinion, then it is almost our duty as a Bundestag to reach them there. In a reasonable form.” Klöckner also advocated that the Presidium will in future be represented on other platforms such as Tiktok. There are still some videos to follow the sitcom-intro.
