Armin Laschet and Markus Söder are not good at each other, that much is clear. The tense relationship between the two Union politicians is enriched by an episode.
Armin Laschet had to endure a lot of malice after it became known that he lost his driver’s license. The CDU politician had been flashed in a fifties zone in Aachen with almost 100 kilometers per hour and was banned from driving.
Markus Söder, whose relationship with Laschet has been disturbed at the latest since the Bundestag election campaign in 2021, also made fun of his Union colleague. Laschet apparently couldn’t laugh at all. The former NRW Prime Minister reacted quite a bit when ARD presenter Sandra Maischberger asked him about it during her talk show.
Armin Laschet finds statement by Markus Söder “Tasteless”
Söder had said the “Bild am Sonntag”: “By the way, I didn’t follow Armin Laschet on his car ride. I have an alibi for the day.” The question was whether the CSU boss had ensured that Laschet left empty in the formation of the new federal government.
“I am a Rhinelander and find a lot funny, but that’s a bit tasteless,” Laschet commented on “Maischberger” the statement of the Bavarian Prime Minister. Söder does not know “the situation that was about”. Laschet had explained his pace crossing that he was persecuted by unknown men while driving.
“It is as it is, everyone says the things he believes that they fit him,” the 64-year-old still stuck towards Söder. On the question of whether Söder had prevented him in the federal government, Laschet said, he didn’t know that. The two Union politicians will probably not be friends so soon.
No post in the new federal government
Laschet was discussed during the coalition negotiations between the CDU, CSU and the SPD as the new Foreign Minister or President of the Bundestag. In the end he went away empty -handed – possibly also because of his fine procedure, which became public during this time. Laschet had to pay 428 euros, received two points in Flensburg and a month of driving. The experienced foreign politician should now become the head of the Federal Foreign Committee.
