The United States wants to force Iran to narrow down its nuclear program. According to President Trump, the US government has now drawn up concrete details of how it imagines the whole.
According to President Donald Trump, the United States sent a formal proposal to Tehran in the nuclear discussions with Iran. “Yes, you have a suggestion,” said Trump on board the government machine Air Force One after his departure from Abu Dhabi. “You know that you have to act quickly, otherwise something bad will happen.”
Washington and Tehran are currently negotiating the Iranian nuclear program with the mediation of the Gulf State. With an agreement, the United States is aiming for a limitation of the Iranian nuclear program to prevent the country from building nuclear weapons. In return, Tehran hopes for a loosening of the sanctions and an economic upswing.
A mix of warm words and threats
During his visit to the Middle East, Trump had optimistically commented on the ongoing talks and said: “I think we are close to doing a deal.” At the same time, Trump threatened again with great military hardness against the country if both sides did not agree in the “nice” way. In a speech in Riyadh, the US President had already emphasized that the willingness to talk to the Americans was not unlimited.
In 2015, Iran had already agreed to restrict its nuclear program in the Vienna Nuclear Agreement. Trump out of the pact in 2018 – at that time in his first term – and imposed new, hard sanctions. Then Tehran no longer adhered to the requirements of the agreement. Iran asserts that its nuclear program only serves civil purposes, not the development of nuclear weapons.
