Friedrich Merz’s government rejects migrants at the border – this is not well received by the European neighbors. The Chancellor plays down the conflict.
From the perspective of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), the new migration policy of the federal government does not contradict the European partners. “Please don’t let anyone say that this is now, so to speak, against our European neighbors,” said Merz at the Südwest-CDU state party conference in Stuttgart. “I spoke to everyone and they all know what we mean: we want to solve this problem together, but we cannot accept that a large part of the unresolved problem arrives in the Federal Republic of Germany.”
That’s why you change that now – and the numbers went down after a week, said Merz. The government will ensure that the topic is solved in such a way that cities and municipalities have air to breathe again and that Germany could again be an open, tolerant, foreign -friendly country.
Poland sees the border policy of Friedrich Merz critically
In the coalition agreement there is the sentence: “In coordination with our European neighbors, we will also make rejections at the common limits even in the event of asylum requests.” Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) had announced after taking office to have the German limits checked more sharply. Asylum seekers should therefore also be rejected at the border.
Poland Prime Minister Donald Tusk had sharply criticized the change of course when Merz’s inaugural visit in Poland in the input visit: “Germany will be letted in his area. Criticism also came from Switzerland.
