Inserting their own agents to Germany has become more difficult for Russian secret services. To do this, according to the constitutional protection, they are now increasingly hiring henchmen for sabotage and espionage.
According to the protection of the constitution, the increased use of so -called “low level agents” by Russian secret services is also a reaction to success of the local counterpart. “The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and other European defense services have been seeing a significant increase in activities of Russian secret services for years,” said the Vice President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BFV), Sinan Selen, the German Press Agency.
Russia relies on various methods, sometimes combine them and tactically adapt them to the defense measures. People would also be used here who would be recruited via social media or in other ways for individual actions or operations, so -called “low level agents”.
No trained intelligence officers
These henchmen, which are also referred to as “disposable agents”, are not official secret service employees and are used for sabotage, propaganda or spying. You usually get money for this. According to the knowledge of the German security authorities, people who were noticed by Prorussian statements are recruited.
Detections due to alleged agent activity
A few days ago, alleged plans for attacks on goods transport in Germany became known. A total of three Ukrainians were arrested in Germany and Switzerland. The federal prosecutor accuses you of agent work for sabotage purposes. Accordingly, there is a suspicion that state bodies in Russia are behind it as the client.
The recruitment of “low level agents” for disinformation, sabotage or spying on goals is an integral part of the Russian repertoire for actions against European countries, said the BFV vice. The Protection of the Constitution is based on a long -term threat from Russian activities in Europe – regardless of the Russian attack war on Ukraine and the further course of this conflict. Selen said: “Germany is particularly focused on Russian secret services.” The threat therefore remains high.
