The intensive controls at the borders are a feat for the federal police. The Ministry of the Interior does not deny that. This cannot be held out for a long time, says the police union.
According to the police (GdP), the tightened controls and rejections of asylum seekers at the German border are not long to hold out. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, it is not to be expected that they will soon be returned. CSU boss Markus Söder considers an increase in the federal police to be necessary for the long-term securing of the external borders.
Currently, the requirements are only to be created “because duties have been changed, the further training of the units is currently on ice and the reduction of overtime has currently been stopped,” said the Federal Police Chairman in the GdP, Andreas Roßkopf, the newspapers of the Funke media group. “One thing is clear: The police can only maintain the intensive controls for a few weeks.” Well over 1,000 standby police officers have been in use in the border area for days.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) had intensified border controls a few hours after taking office. At the same time, he ordered that asylum seekers can also be rejected at the border. According to the minister, the number of rejections rose by almost half within a week.
CSU boss Markus Söder in Munich demanded that the federal police staff had to be reinforced. “And not only at the border, but also at the train stations.” CDU general secretary Carsten Linnemann emphasized in Berlin: “A country must know who is in the country and who is not in the country.”
However, even after the introduction of the intensified controls, the German land borders are not completely checked around the clock. AfD boss Chrupalla said in the broadcaster World-TV: “If you really want to protect the border effectively, you need over 20,000 more officials. There are currently no.”
Effort for the federal police
“We know that this is a big effort for the federal police, for the organization and for the individual,” said a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior on request. The minister still believes the increased controls is necessary. In the past, the federal police also demonstrated that it could cope with large and long -lasting locations. It was also clear that she will continue to deal with your legal tasks at train stations and airports.
Roßkopf made it clear that the police union was behind the efforts of politics to “reduce irregular migration to Germany with border controls by the federal police”. With a view to the necessary staff, it was said from security circles, of course the long -term question arises as to whether the federal police can continue to support the federal states to date, for example in accompanying football games and demonstrations.
SPD expert speaks of risk
For the SPD interior expert Lars Castellucci, the German path also harbors. “However, asylum seekers, we take a risk that our European neighbors leave the joint course of the asylum reform in Europe and take on national measures,” Castellucci told Funke newspapers. In migration, however, Germany can “only be successful together with our neighbors”.
The Union’s domestic spokesman in the Bundestag, Alexander Throm, replied, the border controls had an effect. “Germany is no longer the magnet for migration in Europe. Our European neighbors have hoped for such a more restrictive migration policy in Germany for many years,” said the CDU politician.
