Gaza War: Israel pulls negotiators from Qatar

There is no progress in the indirect conversations between Israel and Hamas in Qatar. Israel therefore draws consequences. Sharp criticism comes from relatives of the hostages.

For the lack of progress in the negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza War, Israel wants to withdraw its leading negotiators from Qatar. “After about a week of intensive discussions in Doha, the high -ranking negotiation team will return to Israel’s consultations, while the representatives of the working level will remain in Doha for the time being,” said the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel agreed to an agreement, as the US specialist Steve Witkoff has proposed in the past, it said. The design provides for the release of kidnapped and a longer ceasefire. The Hamas continues to reject the plan, explained Netanyahu’s office. As a condition for the remaining hostage, the Islamists require an end to the Gaza War.

The Foreign Minister of the Agency, Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, had previously announced that he saw no progress in the recent talks. “Unfortunately, the discussion rounds of the past few weeks have not led us anywhere,” he said. There is a “basic gap” between the two parties to the conflict. “We could not bridge this gap – despite various suggestions.”

The team of Israeli negotiators had been in Qatar since last Tuesday.

The forum of the hostage families sharply criticized the deduction of the negotiators. The majority of the country support the release of all hostages, even if the war was ended, it said in an explanation.

The Gaza War began after the devastating massacre of Hamas terrorists and other Islamist extremists in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
