There is no progress in the indirect conversations between Israel and Hamas in Qatar. Further auxiliary transports arrive in the Gaza Strip – but according to UN it is not enough.
For the first time since the beginning of March, aid deliveries come back to the Gaza Strip – they have not yet reached the needy people on site according to UN. The relief supplies were still in an area behind the border fence controlled by the Israelis, said the United Nations spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric controlled by the Israelis. Meanwhile, the negotiations for a ceasefire are stalling.
Dujarric explained the hurdles in the distribution of the relief goods: The UN would have to obtain permits from Israel’s army. “And we also have to make sure that the general area is safe for us.” The UN and aid organizations warn of a famine in the coastal strip.
On the second day after the end of the Israeli blockade of the aid deliveries, 93 trucks were brought into the area with goods. Humanitarian aid includes flour for bakeries, baby food, medical equipment and medication, the responsible authority Cogat said in the evening.
Israel’s army “all efforts to ensure that the relief supplies do not get into the hands of the terrorist organization Hamas,” said a statement by the authority. Dujarric, however, warned that the number of auxiliary transports arrived on Tuesday was still not sufficient. During the fire break at the beginning of the year, up to 600 trucks drove with relief goods across the border to the Gaza Strip every day.
Since the beginning of March, Israel had not allowed aid deliveries. The country accuses Hamas to resell the relief goods to finance their fighters and weapons.
Israel: Dozens of auxiliary transporters should go to Gaza every day
A spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced that Israel would enable dozens of auxiliary transporters to the Gaza Strip every day in the coming days. On Monday, humanitarian aid had come to the competitive area for the first time in almost three months – but according to Israeli information, there were initially only five trucks.
No progress in Gaza negotiations
The negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza war stall. Israel therefore announced that it would withdraw his leading Katar negotiators. “After about a week of intensive discussions in Doha, the high -ranking negotiation team will return to Israel’s consultations, while the representatives of the working level will remain in Doha for the time being,” said the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The forum of the hostage families sharply criticized the deduction of the negotiators. The majority of the country support the release of all hostages, even if the war was ended, it said in an explanation.
The Foreign Minister of the Agency, Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, had previously announced that he saw no progress in the recent talks. There is a “basic gap” between the two parties to the conflict. “We could not bridge this gap – despite various suggestions.” Hamas insists on a final end to the fights. Israel initially aims at a break of fire in which the hostages are released and wants to continue fighting afterwards.
CNN: speculation about Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities
Meanwhile, the broadcaster CNN reported on several US officials that the United States had received secret service information that indicated that Israel made preparations for an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. According to the officials, however, it is unclear whether the Israeli government had already made a decision about it. But the likelihood of such an attack on an Iranian nuclear system has increased significantly in recent months, another person is cited by the broadcaster.
The aim of the United States is to persuade Iran to limit its nuclear program with a new agreement – to prevent the construction of an atomic bomb. Tehran, on the other hand, hopes for a relaxing of the sanctions that have plunged the country into one of the most severe economic crises in its history. However, the country is vehemently refused to do without nuclear technology and independent uranium enrichment.
Report on the bad condition of a hostage
Meanwhile, Israeli media reported, citing the recently released American-Israeli dual-staples Edan Alexander, that there was a hostage in poor physical and mental state. The young man should therefore suffer from constant stomach pain and muscle weakness and can no longer be alone. He also often withdraws into a corner for hours and refuses to speak, it said in the reports.
According to the left -liberal newspaper “Haaretz”, the Israeli is said to have survived the collapse of Tunnels by Israeli attacks several times. The Ministry of Defense had recently informed the family that the man was tortured in the Gaza Strip during his hostage, in cages and captivated with hand and footstorms.
EU wants to examine an agreement with Israel
Above all because of Israel’s blockade of auxiliary deliveries to Gaza, the EU questions its partnership agreement with Israel. According to EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas, a “strong majority” spoke out at a foreign ministerial meeting in Brussels to check whether Israel still adheres to the basic principles of the so-called association agreement.
These include that the relationship between the contracting parties is also based on respect for human rights. According to diplomats, Germany was one of the countries at the ministerial meeting that spoke out against a review. Among other things, the federal government argues that it does not want to endanger the existing discussion channels with Israel.
Israel criticized the decision. A spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that the criticism of Israel will further harden the position of Hamas in the negotiations on a ceasefire in the Gaza War.
The Gaza War triggered was the worst massacre in the history of Israel, which Hamas and other terrorist groups had committed on October 7, 2023. Around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 were dragged into the Gaza strip as hostages. According to the health authority controlled by the Hamas, more than 53,100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the beginning of the war. The number does not differentiate between fighters and civilians and can hardly be checked independently.
