It would be another escalation in the Middle East conflict: According to the broadcaster CNN, Israel plans attacks on nuclear systems in hostile Iran. Can the United States settle?
According to a media report, Israel apparently prepares an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. The US news broadcaster CNN reported on this on Tuesday (local time) and referred to several people from US government groups familiar with the matter. However, it was not clear whether the Israeli leadership of the plans had already made a final decision, added CNN, citing the insiders. The Reuters news agency was not able to confirm the information independently.
Report on Israeli attack plans burst in negotiations between the United States and Iran
The United States and Iran are currently in the middle of discussions about regulations of the Iranian nuclear program. The US government insists on a complete cessation of uranium enrichment in the Islamic Republic. The enrichment is considered a possible way to develop atomic bombs. However, Iran rejects Western allegations to strive for weapons and claims that its nuclear program only serves civilian purposes to generate energy.
When visiting the Golf region, US President Donald Trump explained last week that a new nuclear agreement was within reach, but Iran had to act quickly. On Tuesday, the political and spiritual head of the Islamic Republic, Ajatollah Ali Chamenei, rejected the United States’ demands after a stop of uranium enrichment as “exaggerated and outrageous” and warned that the conversations would probably not bring any results.
