They call themselves “last wave of defense”. Alleged young right -wing extremists are said to have planned attacks on refugees.
The Attorney General takes action against young men who are supposed to belong to a suspected right -wing terrorist cell. In the early morning, five suspects are arrested in Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hesse during a police campaign against a association, which calls itself “last wave of defense”. According to the Karlsruhe authority, they should be 14 to 18 years old.
The alleged members of the group are said to have planned attacks on refugees and politically dissenters. As the Karlsruhe authority continued, emergency services also began in Saxony and Thuringia with searches in a total of 13 objects. These measures were directed against three other German citizens who are already in custody.
Defense of the “German Nation”
The “last wave of defense” is said to have been founded in April 2024 at the latest, as the federal prosecutor said. “The members of this association see themselves as the last instance to defend the” German nation “”, according to the Karlsruhe authority. “Their goal is to bring about a collapse of the democratic system in the Federal Republic of Germany, primarily against migrants and political opponents.”
The top German law enforcement authority accuses four of those arrested membership in a terrorist association, one of the support of such a association. Three are said to have been so -called ringleaders of the group. Among the allegations, the Federal Prosecutor also mentions attempted murder, arson and property damage.
Approach planned for asylum accommodation?
In February, Saxon investigators prevented a presumably planned attack on asylum accommodation in Senftenberg in Brandenburg thanks to the information from a journalist.
On February 12, an apartment and another property were searched in Meißen in Saxon. According to the General Prosecutor’s Office Dresden, explosives were found in the form of two ball bombs, as well as whipped rings, one-handed knives, ammunition, shotgun and softair weapons. A 21-year-old German, who was arrested on the day of the search, is said to have been equipped for an attack on asylum accommodation in Senftenberg.
According to the public prosecutor, the spherical bombs were industrially produced pyrotechnics. The research team’s research also proved to be helpful when clarifying an arson attack on a cultural center in Altdöbern in October. Two of the now arrested young men are suspected of being involved in the attack on October 23, 2024.
“It is particularly shattering: All those arrested today are said to have been a minor when the terrorist group was founded,” said Federal Minister of Justice Stefanie Hubig (SPD). It is also the task of politics to counter the radicalization of young people, especially.
