In the Gaza Strip, hundreds of thousands are waiting for life -saving relief goods. Chancellor Merz expresses great concern in view of the situation in the sealed coastal area.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has called on the Israeli government to enable humanitarian relief supplies to reach the needy population in the Gaza Strip without delay. “We are very concerned about the location in the Gaza Strip and also about the intensification of the Israeli army there, more than worried,” said Merz during a visit to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. It is in exchange with the Israeli government that the foreign ministers of both countries have recently made calls several times.
“Above all, we urge that the humanitarian aid goods finally get into the Gaza Strip without delay and also reach people there, because as we hear from the United Nations, there is now really a threat of real famine in the Gaza Strip,” said Merz.
Merz: “Now it has to be helped comprehensively and really sustainably”
Israel had lifted an almost three -month blockade of humanitarian aid on Sunday – some of the trucks that were then left into the sealed coastal area, but stood within the Gaza strip near the border crossing for days because the route proposed for them was too dangerous. UN-NOTILFECHEFT Tom Fletcher wrote in the morning on X: “Truck loads with life-saving auxiliary goods are finally on the way again.”
Merz said: “Now it has to be helped comprehensively and really sustainably so that the population does not suffer there.”
