Digital currencies: Crypto dinner with Trump accompanied by protests

Critics accuse Trump of mixing his presidency with his own economic interests. Demonstrators in front of the golf club held up posters with slogans like “Stops Trump’s crypto corruption” or “Democracy is not for sale”. Videos on the net also hear that they shouted “shame, shame”.

Democratic MP Sean Casten wrote on the online platform X that dozens of guests of the dinner were foreign nationals. He warned of potential foreign influence on US policy and asked the Ministry of Justice to investigate whether dinner violated federal laws.

The legal scientist of George Washington University, Jessica Tillipman, criticized the event at the news channel CBS News as “unprecedented”. It seems to be a president who may benefit privately from something he does in public.

Trump’s spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt rejected criticism and emphasized that the president took part in the dinner in his free time. “It is not a dinner of the White House”, it doesn’t take place there, she said.
