“Desecrated and left lying around like rubbish”: In Aschaffenburg, victims of abuse from the Catholic Church publicly report on their fate.
At a solidarity campaign in Aschaffenburg with the victims of abuse from the Catholic Church, those affected publicly reported on their fate.
“The door closed behind the perpetrator. I was lying on the ground, desecrated and left lying around like garbage,” said one of those affected in the Church of the Nativity of Mary. Another spoke of “soul murder of children”.
“Cardinal Marx has used far too little over the past twelve years to address those affected personally,” said Pastor Markus Krauth, explaining the impulse to offer those affected a forum instead of the Sunday service prescribed by the Council constitution. “We don’t just want to preach charity, we want to live it.”
Abuse cases not dealt with appropriately
The report commissioned by the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising came to the conclusion that cases of sexual abuse in the diocese had not been dealt with appropriately for decades. The experts assume at least 497 victims and 235 alleged perpetrators, but at the same time from a significantly larger number of unreported cases.
«What shocks us as a congregation of this church is not only the unspeakable suffering that so many people had to experience at the hands of priests, bishops and vicars general. What particularly shocks us is the betrayal of the victims, the gospel and personal responsibility,” wrote the parish council in an open letter to Bishop Franz Jung of Würzburg. The focus is still on the unconditional protection of the organization, it is said. To this day, those responsible have not understood what sexualized violence does to the victims and their families.
