SPD boss Lars Klingbeil wants to have the AfD banned-and clearly criticizes the coalition partner CDU. What is behind his advance.
SPD party leader Lars Klingbeil has opened openly for a possible ban procedure against the AfD. “If the protection of the constitution determines that this is a secure right -wing party, then all measures must be taken and checked,” he said at a party congress of the Lower Saxony SPD in Wolfenbüttel.
“And if the CDU general secretary then stands out and says there will be no prohibition procedure, then I tell you that it cannot be done with us,” said Klingbeil. CDU general secretary Carsten Linnemann is skeptical about a possible AfD ban. He had spoken in favor of combating the party in terms of content.
AfD is classified as “secured right -wing extremist”
An AfD ban should not be removed from the table, said Klingbeil. The calls after the initiation of a prohibition procedure had become louder after the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution had upgraded the AfD to “secured right -wing extremist endeavor” at the beginning of May. In contrast, the party is defending itself with an urgent application.
Until a decision by the responsible administrative court of Cologne, the domestic secret service has put the new classification on hold and therefore continues to lead the AfD only as a so -called suspicion.
