US President Donald Trump has again offered Protection of his planned new rocket defense system. Until the end of his term in almost four years, the Republican wants to build a “Golden Dome” for the United States, based on the Israeli “Iron Dome”. He had previously stated that Canada had expressed interest in participation. Media cited the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney with the statement that the idea was examined at the highest level of government.

However, as in the past, the regulators of the US President’s objections should cause great outrage. During his inaugural visit to Washington, Carney had given the territorial ambitions of Trump a humorous but unmistakable cancellation: Canada was not for sale, he emphasized.

As a start-up financing for the “Golden Dome”, $ 25 billion is initially planned, the project is to cost a total of around 175 billion. According to the congressional budget office (household office of the US Congress), however, the actual costs could be significantly higher.

Trump had initiated the project shortly after his inauguration in January. The “Golden Dome” should go far beyond the existing US defense systems and would clearly differ from the Israeli model. Because the geographical and security policy conditions in the USA are fundamentally different. Neither Mexico nor Canada represent a military threat. Due to the enormous size of the USA, there are also great doubts about the efficiency of a nationwide system.
